About Me

My photo
I am a studio artist and textile designer. My work swirls around among art, design, and the joy of making things. I founded LFN Textiles Artists Ribbons in 2002, and have been designing these fairly wonderful ribbons for 8 years now. They are distributed for the wholesale market exclusively by Renaissance Ribbons, and are available at retail on my website, www.lfntextiles.com, and nationwide through fine fabric stores, gift shops. My tapestries are available through a number of galleries across the country as well. See the links section for contact information.

Les Soeurs Anglaises

Oh, I am going soon!  I have been longing to go to les Soeurs Anglaises in France ever since I first saw an ad for it in Selvedge Magazine several years ago.  I leave Friday.  Paris first for a few days, then the train down to Angouleme and on to Briancon, where this magical textile retreat paradise is located.  I have already written about Jone Hallmark, who is teaching the week long workshop I am attending -- brilliantly creative, fun, and an enchanting person, she will lead what I might term a week long party of making for us lucky participants.

OK, I might just be gloating here but look at these photos and say that you envy me!  this is a major treat for me.  And there will always be Paris -- send me your favorite textile spots in Paris and I will follow up here when I get home.

  1. I envy you.

Well, not really, wouldn't trade these mountains for any city. But I am enjoying it hugely, through your eyes :)

    1. This is in the countryside in sw France, on the edge of the Dordogne. Tonight the nearby village is celebrating the feast of the Assumption with rock music, pommes frites, trumpets and accordions, and lots of beer. Walked back from the village an hour ago and they just now let off all of their fireworks, well within hearing but not in view. Cool clear evening, beaucoup des etoiles.

  2. Hi Laura!

I just read Selvedge for the first time after a friend of mine lent me a stack of the magazines. What a beautiful publication! I was also drawn to the ad for Les Soeurs Anglaises. It's very tempting! I'm torn between this or possibly cooking with someone in the south. Is there anywhere on earth more beautiful?

    1. They do cooking events at LSA, and I have to say that the accommodations and landscape are unbelievably lovely. Food is fantastic too, fresh from the garden and light enough not to feel naughty!

    2. I loved looking at your blog, Eileen. Yes, go study pastry! So many things to learn in this life, and for me puff pastry would be one of the trickiest.... Here is LSA's food page.
